e.g. 710 (10) : SX33, v1.92
2.4 Strategy and Thinking Games
- Armour Alley
Works, but not with SoundBlaster turned on. Configure it to use the PC speaker instead.
- Bomb25
Works. ("Worms" type game)
- Campaign 2 [demo]
Tank game. Works ok. (710 (26) : DX2-66 v.201)
- Cannon Fodder [demo]
Not playable, problems with scrolling.
- Cannon Fodder II [CD]
Doesn't work.
- Civilisation
Works, but for reasonable speed PC speaker sound should be enabled and MCGA graphics selected
Soundblaster emulation doesn't work. Can have the occasional crash.
- Civilisation 2 [CD - Windows needed ?]
Sound and graphics fine on DX2/80 in RPC700; video clips too slow but not needed anyway; recommended.
- Civ Net
Internet based Civilisation. Doesn't work
- Chessmaster 2100
Problems with floppy protection (avoid)
- Colonisation
Playable. No sound, can hang so save regularly. (710 (10) : SX33 v1.91)
- Command & Conquer [CD]
Works, but may crash if launched from DOS. Lack of sound affects playability. Note you should not configure the game to use sound as this causes the game to crash. Apparently the sound problems are caused by the programmers of the game using a new type of sound driver that is not supported by the emulation software. Video animations are very slow - they should be skipped.
Also runs under Windows 95 and requires 35MB if installed onto hard drive.
Covert Operations upgrade missions disc also works, although the installation program crashes after finishing.
Network play options work over a null modem cable (as both master and slave), however, you might be outclassed when playing against a 'real' PC.
- Creature Shock [Demo]
Works and is playable. (710 : SX33 v1.91)
- Dune II [HD]
Works ok, might become slow. (610 (13) SX33 v1.92)
Leave sound off as it upsets it after a while.
- Endorfun [Demo]
Puzzle game. Works.
- Entombed 1.0 for Windows
Mouse-controlled graphical exploration puzzle game.
- Fantasy General [Demo]
Doesn't work - Needs SVGA. Takes ages to install.
- Flight Commander 2 [Demo - Windows]
Runs fine. VESA game. (710 (26) : DX2-66 v2.01)
- Grand Slam Bridge 2 for Windows
Works
- Gulf War
Works
- Lemmings
Has problems with floppy protection. (Avoid)
- Lemmings for Windows 3.11
Works but is VERY slow. (710 : SX33 v1.91)
- Lemmings 3D
Demo works but at unplayable speed on 710.
- Master of Orion
Works. (610 (13) : SX33)
- Monopoly [CD]
Works. Animations are so slow they should be switched off. Sound can get out of sync.
- Operation Combat II
Doesn't do much.
- Panzer General
No go. Needs VESA drivers.
- Populus II
Playable. Pointer can be sluggish. (710 (14) SX33 v1.9)
- Powermonger
Installs ok but crashes. (710 (14) SX33 v1.9)
- Rise of the Robots
Doesn't work. Needs DOS 640x480x256. (710 : SX33 v1.91)
- Railroad Tycoon Deluxe [CD for DOS with others]
Speed can depend on mode you start each game in (on this CD), graphics need to be in 16 colours
- Rome AD 92 [HD/CD]
Playable but slow. Keys can be unresponsive. (610 (9) SX33)
- Scorched Earth
Worms type game. Works.
- Settlers (Serf City)
Runs ok but has a sluggish mouse pointer. (710 : DX100). SVGA mode works with PCPro and is playable, however, titles and mouse speed are both slow. (DX4/100)
- Simcity 2000
Needs VESA drivers.
Works well under the new v2.01 software with VESA drivers.
- Simcity Classic
Installs and runs. (710 (14) SX33 v1.9)
- Simlife
Runs ok. (710 (14) SX33 v1.9)
- Sim Tower
Works but says you don't have the correct graphics driver. May crash. Runs in Windows.
[A5000 Aleph1 DX50 -> was slow] Can anyone confirm these details ?
- SubWar 2050
Interesting, particularly in Spanish
- Terror from the Deep
Works. Speed unknown. This might be the same game as X-Com.
- Theme Park [CD]
Works. No sound. (710 (10) SX33). SVGA works but is slow (DX/100 PCPro)
- Transport Tycoon
Dies on installation. Runs fine using PCPro and a 586 card, however, moving around the map is very difficult, even at low detail.
- UFO Enemy Unknown [CD]
Works at a good speed. Sound works
- Velikiye Luki
No go. Needs VESA drivers.
- Walls of Rome
Tactical strategy wargame. Works.
- White Death [CD]
Runs ok but has shaky mouse and graphics (??) (610 (13) : SX33 v1.9)
- Warcraft
Works fine. Speed is ok. (610 (10) : SX33)
- Warcraft II
Retail version 1.00 works well under PC v2.02. Sound effects and speech work using soundblaster sound, however, scrolling is slow even on a 710 & 133MHz PC card. (This doesn't detract from the gameplay all that much though.)
- Warhammer : Shadow of the Horned Rat
Needs DirectX support.
- Worms
Works fine but linking video speed is very slow (use the escape key to skip these). Video may be improved by going into the directory FMV and typing PLAY -noskip .avi . Sound on CD.
Demo may have problems that make it unplayable. Problems with installing the full version but if you type WRMS is works fine. There is a patch on the Ocean Web Site which may overcome the installation problems. While you are there should also pick up the shotgun patch which stops the game crashing. Intro sequence has problems. Also 1.993 beta version might be needed, but beware this is a BETA version. Worms Reinforcements may have corrupted sound and installation problems.
- X Com [Demo : HD]
Works at useable speed. (610 (13) & ? SX33 v1.92)
